Philippe Coutinho signs new contract with Liverpool FC. The long saga of interests from Barcelona and Real Madrid to sign the Brazilian has finally come to an end. He has penned down a contract with his current club. This contract includes a weekly wage of £150,000, £7.5 million a year. No other player in squad earns more than the 24-year-old. The contract will run out in 2022. The interesting part of the contract is that there is no release clause. Yes, there is no release clause in his contract. Which means that Liverpool will not be entertaining any sort of bids for the young playmaker.
Coutinho joined Liverpool in 2013. He came in from Inter Milan as a kid with talent who could be a future superstar. No doubt that he lived up to the expectations and has been sensational for the 5-time champions league winners. He is arguably the best player in the squad. Under the German coach Jurgen Klopp, Coutinho has risen to his full potential. The club depends upon his playmaking abilities up to some extents. Since he got injured a few months back, Liverpool is struggling for wins against the league’s weak teams. So it was obvious that Liverpool would do everything to make their number 10 stay for more years. And a release clause like this will do the job.
The Premier league sensation was heavily linked to the Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid. Both clubs wanted his services in order to improve the midfield. Barcelona wants him as a permanent heir of Andres Iniesta at the club. Whereas, Real Madrid want him for the aging Luka Modric. Coutinho was expected to favor Barcelona on Real Madrid. As he is a close friend of FC Barcelona’s striker Neymar who was trying to convince him to join the Catalans. But due to this clever move by Liverpool, Coutinho will not move at least for next few seasons.
