Lionel Messi lifted his First Trophy as Barcelona Captain

The 2 finalist of Copa Del Rey 2016 Barcelona and Sevilla came face to face in Spanish Super Cup again. The 2 Spanish giants played 2 legs, at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium, and at the Camp Nou. Barcelona was victorious on both the match days securing a comfortable win. Barcelona’s captain Andres Iniesta was out due to injury, it was Lionel Messi to lift the cup. 18/8/2016 marked the day when Messi lifted his first trophy as Barcelona Captain.

Barcelona won Spanish Super Copa with a 3-0 win over Sevilla
Barcelona started the season by winning early season silverware. Friendly and Super Cup games brought a plenty of surprises along. Messi was seen at his full potential as a playmaker and could be regarded as the current best playmaker. The new signings Digne, Denis, Gomez, Samper and Umtiti, all showed that they deserving being at the club. The old talent Munir Hadadi was the biggest surprise. He stunned pundits with his great performances during pre-season games. Last but not the least, Arda Turan was seen playing at his best as he used to in the past. Overall, this pre-season time has been a pretty decent one for Messi and co.

During the Super Cup games, Messi was playing mainly as a midfielder, creating chances. Barcelona won 2-0 in the first game where Messi provided 1 assist to Munir. In the second leg, Leo provided one assist to Arda Turan. He also scored a header from Lucas Digne’s cross which was the final goal of the game. Due to Iniesta’s injury, Messi lifted the cup and it was his first cup as a captain. In total, Leo has now won 29 trophies in his career with the club and 2 with the country. And at this pace, it is not an exaggeration to say that by the end of his career, he will be the player with most team trophies in the history.
