Luis Enrique exit FC Barcelona and his time in charge of the club has come to an end. After FC Barcelona won 6-1 against Sporting Gijon on the weekend, Luis Enrique put an end to the speculations going on around his future with the club. He clearly stated that he will not renew his contract and won’t manage the team in the coming year. Some might cherish the decision and some might be broken heart. But in the end, this seems to be the most sensible decision at the moment for the club and the Spaniard himself.
After signing as the head coach of FC Barcelona in 2014, Luis Enrique rebuilt the club. He brought in new players and sold the ones he didn’t want. His decisions turned out to be great as Barcelona secured a triplet in 2014/15 season. Alongside the trophies, Luis Enrique gave birth to the inevitable attacking trio consisting of Messi, Suarez, and Neymar. The next season also went well as Barcelona secured a domestic double. Messi, Suarez, and Neymar were again the key members of the triumphs.
Since the start of the 2016/17 season, the Catalans are not playing the way they are known for. Losing out on some important points, speculations surrounded the sacking of Luis Enrique. The situation went even worse when Barcelona lost to PSG 4-0 in Paris. Moreover, there was a sense of disbelief among FC Barcelona’s key players like Lionel Messi. So, it is in the interest of both the club and Luis Enrique to part ways.
As the Spaniard declared his exit, media is speculating the potential managers of FC Barcelona next season. Reports suggest that the strongest candidate is Sevilla FC’s current coach Jorge Sampaoli. He has been excellent in Spain and Sevilla seems to be a great threat to opposition teams under him. Moreover, other managers like Arsene Wenger, Jurgen Klopp, Massimiliano Allegri, and former PSG coach Laurent Blanc are also potential candidates that could take over Barcelona’s job the next season.
