After France Football Association and FIFA parted ways in terms of naming the best player in the world, a separate Ballon d’Or and FIFA best player award was given for 2016 as it used to happen in the past. The event witnessed a star-studded red carpet in Zurich. Cristiano Ronaldo was handed his player of the year 2016 trophy. Carli Lloyd became the best woman football player and Claudio Ranieri the best coach for his BPL triumph. FIFA conducted an online voting for the FIFA FIFPro World XI 2016. The FIFA team of the year voted by fans is as following.

GK-Manuel Neuer

The German shot-stopper appeared for the 4th consecutive time in the FIFA team of the year. Manuel Neuer had a great year with Bayern Munich and German national team. He won the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal, and progressed to the Champions league semi-final with FC Bayern Munich. Moreover, his outstanding performance in Euro 2016 earned his country a place in the semi-finals.

RB-Dani Alves

The Brazilian full-back played the first half of 2016 with FC Barcelona and 2nd half with Juventus. He was a crucial member of Barcelona’s domestic double. Since joining Juventus in the summer, Alves has delivered some great performances. Although he has Philip Lahm and Carvajal as competitors for the position. But none of them has been as good as Dani in 2016.

CB-Sergio Ramos

Real Madrid’s savior Sergio Ramos features in FIFA FIFPro World XI 2016 as a center back. The Spaniard has a quality to score last minute goals for his club to save the day. Whether it be an equalizer or a winning goal, Ramos scores them all. He has been a key reason for Real Madrid’s exceptional 2016 when they won the UCL, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup.

CB-Gerard Pique

Another Spaniard in FIFA team of the year is the FC Barcelona’s centre-back Pique. Gerard has been a wall at the back for both the club and country. He won a domestic double with FC Barcelona and a Super de Espana trophy. Apart from trophies, Pique has been sensational this whole year and has delivered some rock solid performances.

LB-Marcelo

11 years ago Marcelo joined Real Madrid as a boy with immense talent and a bright future ahead. He will be retiring as a Real Madrid legend at the end of his career. Along with Sergio Ramos, Marcelo has won the same 3 trophies in this year. Marcelo is a full-back who is a great defender at the back. Moreover, he provides an extra boost to Real Madrid’s left wing due to his excellent vision, crossing, and skills.

CM-Andres Iniesta

Andres Iniesta is like a wine that gets better with age. He is 32 years old now and some might interpret his game to be declining. But he seems to be a better player since past 2 seasons. It seems like all the vision and trick he had, have got a blend with maturity. It won’t be an exaggeration that his impact on a game is more than some of the great players like Cristiano Ronaldo. His excellent year with Barcelona is the reason for his involvement.

CM-Luka Modric

Andres Iniesta’s club rival Luka Modric got his 2nd ever nomination in FIFA FIFPro World XI 2016. After he arrived in the Spanish capital from England, Modric had a bad time. But as he settled at the club, he is now one of the best players in the world for the 2nd time. Modric is considered the best midfielder in the world only second to Andres Iniesta. He was the backbone of Real Madrid’s Champions league triumph in 2016. Moreover, his performances in the Euro 2016 were also stunning.

CM-Toni Kroos

Another La Liga star Toni Kroos also made it to the FIFA FIFPro World XI 2016. The German might want to forget his 2015 campaign. But he has been sensational in 2016 pairing excellently with Luka Modric and ripping defenses apart with his inch-perfect passes and vision. In the summers of 2016, Toni Kroos had a great Euro competition. He was the player with the highest passing accuracy.

RW-Lionel Messi

No surprises as the best player in the world and top goal scorer and assist provider of the Lionel Messi features in the team of the year for the 10th consecutive time. After a bad spell in 2013 and 2014, Messi has risen back to his full potential in 2015 and 2016. He was marvelous in the Copa America but lost on penalties unluckily. There was never any doubt that Messi will make it to the FIFA team of the year 2016.

LW-Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo had an exceptional year winning UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA best player of the year, Ballon d’Or, Euro Cup, and FIFA Best player award. His name is as clear as a crystal.

ST-Luis Suarez

Apart from the golden boot, Suarez won a domestic double with Barcelona and a UEFA Super Cup. He was the best striker in 2016 across the globe.
